The Bats

Shortly after the pond was established, the bats moved in. The pond and surrounding woodland are able to sustain a large population of various bat species. These short clips show Pipistrelle bats using echolocation to catch their prey. When a bat locates its prey you will hear a short burst of clicks. Here I have recorded them at different times during their hunting hours.
To us, bats exist in an almost silent world, to them, it is very different.
